Starting signal for ice skating fun in Vienna

Wiener Eistraum

Vienna Ice Dream 2014

This evening, the Wiener Eistraum (Vienna Ice Dream) between City Hall and the Burgtheater will open. Little and big kids can make their rounds on the ice right in downtown Vienna in front of a gorgeous backdrop.

Despite the partly spring-like temperatures recently, crews have been working diligently since January 2, 2014 on constructing an ice skating rink. The effort is paying off, as a special kind of ice skating experience which many people will enjoy will take place already for the 19th time.

This year as well, there are two large ice skating rinks that are connected to one another via a 750 meter long path through the south park of Vienna City Hall. This year, the popular bridge—on which people have the opportunity to look at the colorful proceedings, take a break and enjoy the ambiance—leads directly over the “Dream Path.”

No ice skating shoes?

No problem! The ice skating shoe rental facility is well-equipped and offers shoes in sizes 23 to 52. In addition, there are adjustable double runners in sizes 21 to 25, as well as free-of-charge protective helmets, and of course the “penguin” ice skating aids for holding onto, so that little guests are able to take their first steps on the ice safely.

Incidentally, during the day, the free-of-charge beginners’ rink is especially well-suited to this end. In the evenings from Monday through Friday between 5:00 and 10:00 PM, it is transformed into a curling rink with 6 lanes. (Don’t forget to reserve your place!)

Fresh air makes you hungry!

At Vienna Ice Dream, all sorts of culinary delights await hungry and thirsty athletes. This year, the focus of gastronomy is especially on regional and organic products. Whether it’s at one of the gastronomy stands or in the alpine cabin (in which the number of seats has been doubled for 2014), there’s something for every taste.
