The 2014 Wiener Wiesn Festival

Tradition, future folk music and the “Pracht der Tracht”

Over 500,000 guests visited the Wiener Wiesn Festival in the past three years. This year, Austria’s largest traditional festival, under the auspices of the mayor of Vienna, will take place for the fourth time. Between September 25 and October 12, 2014, many new things will be on offer on the Kaiserwiese in Vienna’s Prater: three festival tents, the ORF cabin, the Winzer Stadl, two new cabins, the first Trachten clubbing is celebrating its premiere, and in addition to the federal provinces that once again are visiting the capital city for the “Golden Austria” program item, Austria’s neighboring countries are presenting themselves for the first time during the “Crown Land Days.”

Tradition, over 400 hours of folk music, Austrian tradition, splendiferous Trachten (Austrian traditional attire) and a unique celebratory mood – all this is on the program when the 4th Viennese Wiesn-Fest once again moves into the Kaiserwiese in Vienna’s Prater from Thursday, September 25 through Sunday, October 12, 2014. “We are very happy to get to  greet even more Wiener Wiesn Festival fans every day this year,” Claudia Wiesner, chief executive of the Wiener Wiesn Festival, explained. “After all, our large festival tent alone, the Gösser tent, offers an additional 1000 seats this year. The new balcony enables around 300 guests to get very special views of our stage and the events in the tent,” Wiesner said. Our guests in Wojnar’s Kaiserzelt this year can feel like they’re in heaven – since the new, partially transparent roof offers wonderful views of the sun, moon and stars – and on Vienna’s landmark, the Riesenrad [Giant Ferris Wheel].” Next to the third festival tent, the Wiesbauer tent, two new cabins this year offer room for future fun: the Heuboden directly next to the Winzer Stadl and a second cabin across from the ORF Almhütte.

Wiener Wiesn Festival DAY starting at 11:30 AM

The Wiener Wiesn Festival starts at 11:30 AM each day with lots of music and great Frühschoppen (a traditional brunch or alcoholic drink before noon) to kick off the Wiesn Festival DAY. All festival tents can be visited for free until 6:00 PM, after which the entire Wiesn Festival Village as well as the cabins remain open to visitors, also for free, until midnight.

In 2014, like last year, Austria’s most beautiful regions will present themselves at the Wiener Wiesn Festival on a day dedicated to each region under the program item “Golden Austria” – with regional traditions, old traditions and of course lots of music as well. For the first time, Austria’s neighbors may also present themselves at the Wiener Wiesn Festival during the nine Crown Land Days. Representatives from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Istria will each have a rendezvous at the major traditional festival. A federal province stand in the Wiener Wiesn Festival Village and musical entertainment along the entire festival area and in the festival tents complete the program.

Wiener Wiesn Festival PARTY starting at 6:30 PM
