The Original Vienna “Wiesn-Fest” 2013

Austria’s largest fair

Between September 19 and October 6, 2013, the third annual Vienna Wiesn-Fest will take place on the Kaiserwiese in Vienna’s Prater amusement park. The festival thrilled over 320,000 guests during the two preceding years. In 2013, too, the festival stands for traditional customs, more than 400 hours of folk music, domestic delicacies and lots of joie de vivre.

Lots of new things await guests this year – such as the Vienna Wiesn-Fest day, which offers free entrance to all three festival tents as well as the Wiesn-Dorf village and welcomes visitors with atmospheric music and traditional jamborees between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. With the new “Golden Austria” feature on the program, the Vienna Wiesn-Fest will for the first time present all nine of Austria’s federal provinces, their customs and traditions, and will thereby bring the whole country into the city! The new Winzer-Stadl, with its typical wine tavern atmosphere, a federal province stand in the Vienna Wiesn-Fest Village and musical entertainment throughout the entire festival area and in the festival tents, round out the new program.

“The Vienna Wiesn-Fest is a folk festival that should provide everyone with a celebratory mood and joie de vivre,” Claudia Wiesner, managing director of the Vienna Wiesen-Fest, said. The honorary patron of the largest Austrian folk festival in 2013 is the major of Vienna, Dr. Michael Häupl.

At the Vienna Wiesn-Fest PARTY starting at 6:30 PM, Austria’s largest folk festival turns into the city’s hippest party zone with concerts in all three festival tents. Party tickets are available at the Vienna Wiesn-Fest office and via www.wien-ticket.at starting at € 34.00 (price per person upon booking a table), or € 39.00 (single ticket per person). The festival is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as on Sundays starting at 6:00 PM.

The 2013 Vienna Wiesn-Fest musical program is once again top-notch, with artists ranging from the Alpenrebellen and Petra Frey to Marc Pircher, from Hubert Trenkwalder to the Meissnitzer Band. “Viennese music will also be properly represented this year. For instance, some of the capital city’s genuine cult stars, including Jazz Gitti and Adi Hirschal, are performing this year,” Gerfried Zmölnig, managing director of ip media, said.

During the selection process, organizers took pains to make sure that there is something for every taste and that, alongside the most famous and popular folk music stars, promising young artists are also represented.
