The next ORF Long Night of the Museums will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2013, under the title “Night Owls” (“Nachtschwärmer”). The ORF (Austrian National Broadcasting) is initiating this cultural event already for the 14th time. More than 700 museums and galleries throughout Austria will open their doors to anyone interested in culture. For my daughter and me, it is also a (pleasant) must-go event, even for our sixth year. We’re making plans…

Viennese museums – “all you can see” in one night

Since its premiere in the year 2000, over 4.2 million visitors have taken advantage of the enormous range of programming of the Long Night of the Museums. On Saturday, October 5, 2013 between 6:00 PM and 1:00 AM, you can visit as many museums as you want – or can. In Vienna, with 129 cultural locations this year, we’re spoiled for choice. From the largest museums such as the Museum of Art History, the Museum of Natural History and the Museumsquartier, to all sorts of galleries, all the way to small, fine insiders’ tips – you’re certain to find the right exhibition.

The tickets (regular price € 13.00 per person) are also valid again this year for the shuttle buses that go back and forth between the participating institutions. The ticket is simultaneously your transportation ticket for the Wiener Linien (Vienna Public Transport) on the day of the event, from 4:00 PM on to October 6, 2013 until 3:00 AM. Discounted tickets (for € 11.00) are available for school-age and university students, military recruits, senior citizens and disabled persons. Children up to 12 years of age (cut-off date: October 4, 2013) enjoy free admission.

Many highlights for children

For children, numerous special programs are once again on offer. Children are free to make active use of open artists’ studios, children’s tours, mystery/puzzle tours, shows, courses, artistic tools and lots more. Children who visit at least three children’s programs should get a stamp in their booklet – there is then a small gift at the children’s tent located at “Treffpunkt Museum” (museum meeting point) at Vienna’s Heldenplatz.

You can get tickets and booklets via advance booking at all participating museums or online at http://langenacht.ORF.at as well as at TREFFPUNKT Museum at Vienna’s Heldenplatz, at the following dates and times:
Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM
Friday, October 4, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Saturday, October 5, 2013 starting at 9:00 AM

We wish you lots of fun as a cultural “night owl”!
