Easter season in Vienna

Easter market Vienna

The Easter Bunny’s favorite places in Vienna.

Vendors are already hard at work on constructing Vienna’s Easter markets. On Friday, March 31, 2017, the Altwiener Ostermarkt (Old Viennese Easter Market) opened on the Freyung, as well as the Kunsthandwerk-Markt (Arts and Crafts Market) “Am Hof,” and on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the front court of Schönbrunn Palace, everything centers on the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs in all their variations.

If you happen to be traveling in Vienna during the time prior to Easter, I’d like to warmly recommend a visit to one of the Viennese Easter markets.

Europe’s largest mountain of eggs on the Freyung

Not far from the Schick Hotels and easily combinable with a stroll through the city is the Alt Wiener Ostermarkt on the Freyung. Although it is already well-established, this Easter market is still considered an insiders’ tip. Over 40 exhibitors present Easter arts and crafts and culinary delicacies. There is a regular program for children and adults, and new this year is the “longest Passion crib in Austria” – let’s see what’s in store for us!

The highlight of the market is the “ginormous egg mountain” in the middle. Thousands of eggs in all sizes, in all colors, decorated caringly with all sorts of techniques, are stacked up there and invite visitors to try them. You’ll have difficulty deciding on only one!

Open daily from 10:00 AM – 07:30 PM.

Kunsthandwerksmarkt Am Hof

Right around the corner, at Am Hof, you’ll find the Kunsthandwerksmarkt (Arts and Crafts Market), which has also dressed itself up in Easter garb and presents all kinds of handmade artworks.

Open from 10:00 AM – 08:00 PM (MO-TH from 11.00 AM)

Easter Market in Schönbrunn

The Easter Market in front of Schönbrunn Palace has for a long time no longer been an insiders’ tip. The magnificent backdrop and the square’s vast size make up for the sometimes large rush to this market.
In addition, there is a large program in addition to the 60 exhibitors and culinary providers:
Bring your children to the handicraft workshop in order to create your very own marzipan Easter Bunny, for example, or swing to jazz and soul sounds live at the market (Sundays, as well as Holy Saturday and Easter Monday)!

Open daily from 10:00 AM – 07:00 PM.

All markets are open till April 17, 2017.
