The best from Austria’s regions

The Viennese “Genuss-Festival” is taking place in Vienna’s Stadtpark for the ninth time this year. More than 180 exhibitors will present Austrian’s highest-quality craft products and indulge visitors with regional specialties. For me, this is an – extremely pleasant – must-see event in 2016.

Three days of great culinary pleasure from throughout Austria and South Tyrol in Vienna

Mother’s Day weekend has already established itself as a fixed date for the “Genuss-Festival” in Vienna. From May 6 through 8, more than 180 first-rate craft producers and top manufacturers will present Austrian delicacies – for purchase, tasting and sampling. Background information can be requested directly from the producers, potential collaborations finalized and new contacts made. Some people even select their next vacation destination here – people like to travel anywhere there is good food.

Honesty and regionalism, in addition to authenticity and originality, take center stage at the “Genuss-Festival,” which is presented jointly by the Kulinarisches Erbe Österreich (Culinary Heritage Austria) and the city of Vienna. This year’s endless spectrum ranges from classics such as Pinzgauer Bergkäse cheese, Kärntner Reindling (Carinthian Reindling Easter cake) or Mangalitza Speck (bacon) to creative delicacies like saffron vinegar, strawberry Sturm (fermented grape juice), Viennese salon nougat or potato bratwurst.

Represented here for the first time this year is the South Tyrol region, which will bring bacon and meat products from free-range pigs, cheese specialties, Schüttelbrot (crunchy flatbread), Schlutzkrapfen (mezzelune) and the best wines to Vienna.

Visitors can treat themselves to samples from all of Austria’s federal provinces along the diverse gastronomy mile. A renowned Austrian sparkling wine producer, a Viennese premium beer brand and others will have a suitable drink ready.

Please find here the Map for Visitors of the “Genuss-Festival”.

The gastronomy mile effectively continues in the 200 m2 large origin tent, where not only an original organic milk bar and fruit tastings await guests: The tent also focuses on bakers who show how sourdough is produced according to traditional knowledge and which steps the dough passes through before it becomes organic bread. In addition, there will be a live cooking demonstration using organic eggs.

Anyone interested should note the opening discussion with Werner Lampert at the “green table” on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM, which will be about the great significance and strength of regionalism.

In 2016, as in preceding years, the Raiffeisen Climate Protection Initiative, in collaboration with Culinary Heritage Austria, will award the RKI-KULINARIK-PREIS 2016.

Families with children will be well catered to with the children’s program. In the children’s adventure zone, handicraft and muesli mix stations await the little ones. Adults and children alike can spin the wheel of fortune – three weekend vacations at the farm for the whole family are among the prizes.

Opening hours:
Friday, May 6, 2016, from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Sunday, May 8, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

TIPS:

The “Genuss-Festival” is ideally suited as a Mother’s Day excursion.

Anyone wishing to indulge intensively for three days straight is best advised to take advantage of the “long” weekend from the holiday on Thursday, May 5, 2016 (Ascension Day) through Sunday, May 8, 2016 for a “delicious” brief vacation in Vienna. You’ll thereby also have an opportunity to schedule one or more Viennese landmarks or a trip to the theater or a museum. The Schick Hotels Vienna look forward to welcoming you to Austria’s capital with Viennese charm and to indulging you.
