2016 Vienna Wine Field Day
A weekend of Viennese wine
It’s that time of the year again. On October 1 and 2, 2016, the Wiener Weinwandertag – the Vienna Wine Field Day – will take place for the 10th time. On three different routes, you can stroll, jog or cycle through Vienna’s vineyards, enjoy the gorgeous view of Vienna and taste your way through Viennese wines, invigorated by tavern specialties.
An invitation to the vineyards
Imagine: You happen to be in the middle of the scenic Viennese vineyards, while the sun shines a golden yellow onto the green grapevines just starting to change color. You swirl your wine glass and the city of Vienna is at your feet. I can attest to this from my own experience – there’s really something to it!
The Vienna Wine Field Day has by now become a wonderful attraction in Vienna during autumn. A total of 3 routes – 25 kilometers – lead through the idyllic wine landscape, partly through private vineyards and paths that are not publicly accessible during the rest of the year. Along the way, vintners and wine taverns will invite you to rest over snacks, delicious Viennese wine and grape juice.
Choose from among three routes:
North of the Danube from Strebersdorf (tram line 26), through Magdalenenhof and Senderstrasse to Stammersdorf (tram line 31), 9.6 kilometers at the foot of the Bisamberg mountain.
South of the Danube, from Neustift am Walde (bus line 35A) through Sievering, the Cobenzl winery and Grinzing, to Nussdorf (tram line D), over 10.8 kilometers through the old vineyards of Vienna’s 19th District.
Or the 4.5-kilometer-long route in Ottakring that starts and ends at Castle Wilhelminenberg (bus line 46A).
Hike just part of the way or take a shortcut. The paths are clearly marked and largely stroller-friendly. You can reach all the routes easily from the five Schick Hotels via public transportation.
Weinwandertag App
Maps with the hiking routes are available directly at the entry and exit points. Alternatively, as of last year, you can use the Weinwandertag app. With this app, you’ll be able to find the routes on your smartphone. In addition, you can collect digital stamps at each station along the routes and receive a hiking pin at the end.App für iOs, App für Android
Entertainment during the Vienna Wine Field Day
Along all the paths there are stations with a children’s program, such as at Castle Wilhelminenberg, the children’s farm at Magdalenenhof (Bisamberg), as well as the children’s farm at Landgut Cobenzl, to keep the kids in good spirits too.
At Cobenzl, a DJ will also take care of musical entertainment.
