The Great Vienna Ice World
Ice Skating on Vienna’s Rathausplatz
It’s that time again – for the great ice spectacle on Vienna’s Rathausplatz (City Hall Square). The Vienna Ice World (Wiener Eistraum) opens on January 22nd, 2020 at 5 p.m. After that, it will be open until March 1st, 2020 and offers exceptional fun on ice every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Ann-Kathrin Labschütz completed her apprenticeship as a hotel clerk at the reception in Hotel Stefanie. She has already written several blog articles with tips for a stay in our beautiful city. This time she devoted herself to a topic that suits the season: The Vienna Ice World is absolutely worth seeing, even if you don’t want to strap on a pair of skates.
An outing with the children, a fun time with friends or spontaneously after work, a visit is definitely worth it. The wonderful sparkling ice landscape puts even beginners and less enthusiastic ice skaters in the mood.
As an opening special on January 22nd, you can ice skate for free after 7:00 p.m. The finale on the last day before closing will once again be celebrated with free ice skating. On the other days, admission is € 8.00 for adults and € 5.50 for children.
Absolute Attraction – The Sky Rink
For the first time last year, the Vienna Ice World was built on two levels. A 120-meter-long ramp leads directly to an ice terrace where visitors can ice skate and at the same time enjoy a wonderful view. As a result, you can now skate through underpasses on the lower floor: romantic views and sporting challenges all at the same time.
Safety for the Little Ones and Beginners
Equipment for children such as helmets, double runners and ice penguins are available for rent. Helmets and double runners are free up to shoe size 25.
To be on the safe side: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and all day on the weekends, 550 m of ice rink are available free of charge for children and beginners to attempt their first steps on the ice. No speedsters, no tears – for safe fun on the ice.
Rental Equipment Available
Skates for adults are of course also available for rent. Men’s shoes up to size 52 and women’s up to size 44. The shoes are preheated and available for € 7.50 for adults and € 4.50 for children. So there is nothing standing in the way of your fun.
Wondering what to do with your own shoes and bags? The Vienna Ice World offers a cloakroom where visitors can store their personal items in a locker for € 3.00.
Want to try something different?
In the evenings, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the beginner area is transformed into a total of 8 Bavarian curling lanes. Here you can embrace your competitive side and measure your strength against your friends. A maximum of 10 people can play on each lane for a fee of € 70.00 per 30 minutes. Please be sure to make a reservation in advance.
Various outdoor stands and three alpine chalets with large indoor seating areas ensure the physical well-being of all the athletes and spectators. Here you can take a break, fortify yourself and warm up.
From Schick Hotels, the best way to get to the Vienna Ice World is by foot or by streetcar.
Have fun!
