POTS and BLITZ – Ceramic Porcelain Design Market
The design market for handmade clay works in the MuseumsQuartier
From September 20 to 22, 2019, the design market for handmade clay works will host around 50 international artists and ceramists for the fifth time. This year, the event will take place for the first time in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, where ceramics in all its diversity will be celebrated.
“Keramik und Porzellan im Augarten” became “POTS und BLITZ” in the MuseumsQuartier in 2019. New name, new location: In the Arena 21, in the foyer and in the oval hall of the MuseumsQuartier, the artists will display a broad panorama of their authentic and unique clay works.
The 50 exhibitors hailing from six countries have been selected by a specialist jury, which on the one hand has put store by prestigious names, but which also, on the other, has given space to young artistic talent, new workshops and small manufacturers. As a result, visitors will be treated to a broad repertoire of colorful stoneware vessels, modern artworks and fine sculptures that can be both marveled at as well as purchased.
In addition to the uniqueness and craftsmanship, the jury paid special attention to the different products, production and firing techniques as well as the materials used. Everyday objects and utensils, design products and art objects, figures and sculptures are all available and exclusively produced by the artists themselves. Away from the mainstream, these are a refreshing counter-view to conventional pottery.
A highlight among the exhibitors: Rosemarie Benedikt, the grand dame of the Austrian ceramics scene who became famous with her coatis, is celebrating her 80th birthday. On this occasion, she shows her latest creations.
Space for young artists in MuseumsQuartier
POTS and BLITZ will also provide budding artists and designers with a space in which they can showcase their works in public. As part of their four-year ceramic education, students of the KunstModeDesign Herbststrasse have created a collection of models for use on dining tables under the title “My private table-zoo”. The result is an original zoo for the table, which also houses animals that have taken on such fantastical forms that it is fun to try to guess what animals they are supposed to be.
