ViennaJazzFloor 2016

One month of jazz, blues, funk and soul in Vienna

Cool, top-quality live music with heart and soul – lovers of jazz, blues, funk and soul genres have long known that November is dedicated to the ViennaJazzFloor festival, and 2016 is no exception. Nine well-known Viennese clubs offer a densely packed program with 100 top-notch concerts.

Good vibrations in the City of Music, Vienna

Jazz and blues are every bit as outstandingly suited to the world’s music capital as the Viennese waltz, the Viennese lied, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, classics of Viennese operetta and more. Countless pubs and clubs have dedicated themselves to their passion for jazz and related genres and bring all different acts on their stages while supporting the local scene and young artists.

Once a year, with the ViennaJazzFloor a club festival extraordinaire is presented. From November 1 through 30, 2016, internationally renowned jazz musicians and Austrian greats perform in nine Viennese music venues, from popular clubs such as Jazzland, Sargfabrik and Reigen, to Davis, Martinschlössl and the legendary Tunnel, all the way to Blue Tomato, Miles Smiles (which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year) and the Zwe with its living room atmosphere.

Audiences can look forward to a broad repertoire – from jazz and related genres of blues, funk and soul – at over 100 concerts.

Selections from this year’s top-notch program

While the full program is comprehensive, a few special performances are mentioned here:

Among the highlights of ViennaJazzFloor 2016 is the performance by blues icon Popa Chubby at Reigen on opening day, November 1, 2016. The American jazz quartet Oregon (on November 24, 2016) and Ernst Molden & Der Nino aus Wien (on November 8, 2016) at Sargfabrik are also not to be missed.

At Jazzland, the Dusco Goykovich Quartet performs November 17–19, Jeremy Pelt November 22–24, 2016, and the Mojo Blues Band will close the festival on November 30, 2016. At Miles Smiles, Austrian accordion player Otto Lechner and Moroccan Kadero Rai perform under the motto “Arab Autumn.” At Zwe there are all sorts of jam sessions on the program.

Admission fees vary according to location and act but are moderate throughout. Another reason to immerse yourself in the club festival scene and treat yourself to “ear candy” at the highest level.

The complete program, including details, is attached and also available at www.ig-jazz.at .
Attention: Please note this important information from the presenter: Billy Cobham’s tour was unfortunately canceled (they were scheduled for November 11 at Reigen). Instead of that, look forward to Katarina Pejak & friends.
