Wiener Wiesn 2018
Celebrate Regional Tradition in the Vienna Prater
Get ready to break out your Dirndl and Lederhose from September 27th to October 14th, 2018. Wiener Wiesn-Fest is THE Oktoberfest in Austria where you are invited to don your traditional clothing and celebrate Austrian tradition (of course you are also welcome to join the fun in normal clothing). For the eighth time, the festival will take place on the Kaiserwiese in the Vienna Prater. Enjoy the great atmosphere and experience the good times over 18 days in three festival tents, five alpine pastures and the Wiesn-Fest Village, where you will find regional crafts, culinary specialties and traditional live acts as well as new highlights such as “Cabaret Wiesn” and “Rock die Wiesn”. What more could you ask for?
A fixed date in the Vienna event calendar
The Wiener Wiesn-Fest is taking place this year for the 8th time on the Kaiserwiese in the Vienna Prater and the two-hectare festival grounds will be sure to offer plenty of variety: At the heart of the event are the three festival tents, the Gösser, Wiesbauer- and Wojnar’s Kaiser Tents, where a varied program will be offered daily from 11:30 a.m. onwards. In addition, the five mountain pastures are an enticing location to enjoy an afternoon break in a beer garden and later in the evening to join the lively après-ski events. Along the main boulevard of the Wiener Wiesn-Fest Village, Austrian producers will present their products and offer visitors the chance to taste their Austrian specialties.
The Wiener Wiesn focuses on the amazing diversity of Austria. Every day, new musical and cultural tidbits are waiting to be discovered during the day and evening programs, on the festival stage, in the festival tents and on the mountain pastures.
The opening celebration will kick off with the official beer tapping, and the “Edelseer” will do the honors as the musical ambassadors of Austria. The traditions will continue on from there with each day being dedicated to a different province. Traditional music groups, musicians and artisans will present the rich diversity of their region on these province days, bringing all of Austria and its most beautiful regions to Vienna.
The senior afternoons welcome you to enjoy coffee and cake. The motto of the “Pink Wiener Wiesn” on October 5th, 2018 is “Celebrate Together”. This evening is all about the Austrian LGBT scene.
The popular Children Wiesn offers younger guests a colorful children’s program with many great games, a huge playground, a treasure hunt and face painting, Friday to Sunday from 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m..
What’s New in 2018?
If all this is not entertaining and funny enough, you can train your laugh muscles this year in the Gösser Tent at the “Cabaret Wiesn”. On October 8th, 2018, Gery Seidl is sure to provide big laughs with his new cabaret program and on October 9th, 2018, will certainly tickle your funny bone with the “Best of” the Kernölamazonen.
Those who prefer to rock-n-roll will find what they are looking for at the first “Rock die Wiesn” on October 2nd, 2018 where “Guns n’ Roses Revolution” and “AC/DC Revival Band” are sure to energize the crowds in Wojnar’s Kaiser Tent.
New to the program is also the “Super Wednesday”. Be sure to grab tickets at great prices for the Wiesn-Fest-Parties on October 3rd and 10th, 2018 with stars like Mickie Krause and Münchener Freiheit in the Gösser and Wiesbauer festival tents.
The entire festival grounds can be explored admission free on Monday and Tuesday. Tickets are only required for the evening programs in the three festival tents from Wednesday to Saturday and for special events.
